2 out of 3 pro mode format with different cap levels

Post by Bookie203 »

Ok this post is meant to solve various issues.

Problem 1 - Currently new players have trouble playing veteran players who have been around for a while because of cap difference.
Problem 2 - the player base is small and there are a lot of bots
Problem 3 - how to even the playing field for new players so that they stick around

Proposed solution

Allow pro players the ability to play a 2 out of 3 format. This means we play a lot less bots because there are more games between us. In addition if you allow us to select the cards in the first round then when we play match 2 we may decide to vary the starting hand based on what our opponents first hand was in match 1. Finally match 3 allows us to play a match based on good counter strategy.

Proposed solution 2

Vary the CAP limit in each round to give new players a fair chance.

Match 1 - CAP 35
Match 2 - cap 40
Match 3 - CAP 45

In this format a veteran player is also pro ably forced to start a different starting three cards in each round simply because of the CAP considerations.

Each round can have ladder points at stake.

Setting the Foundations for something even bigger......

Once a three round format can be worked out this can set the stage for 3 round tournaments in the future consisting of 8 players. Not something needed now because of the player base but something down the road.

Other suggestions here are:

Round 1 - CAP 40
Round 2 - CAP 45
Round 3 - No CAP

Others have suggested there is no need for introducing limited CAP as Arena already serves as a fair place to play for new players.

Also, a 3 round format or best 2 of 3 may not necessarily needed to introduce new CAP restrictions, because players can set more traps in this format. For example, vs a top player I could set a trap deck like one with many face down cards to trick them. i can also use information from the first battle if I lose it to try and devise a good starting hand in the second match that may give me an advantage. The allowance of picking all 7 cards definitely gives the player more opportunity to take bigger risks with their card selection which in the end could give them an increased chance for victory.

In my opinion this sounds like a second core mode with cap restrictions. I don't believe game needs a second core mode and especially with so many restrictions. At times it can already be frustrating and difficult staying within the current cap limit in the time frame allotted; so could be highly annoying and frustrating trying to stay in 3 different ones and believe it would lead to a lot of timeouts. I also don't feel deck cap is a huge issue in ecb2. Unlike in ecb1 there is a cap at 45 which is accessible to everyone within a reasonable amount of time. Players have much better odds of accumulating legend and epic cards in ecb2 than they ever did in ecb1. Momo also implemented a change in the last update giving lower rank cards a added boost against high ranking cards. There are an enormous amount of decks well below cap 45 that easily destroy any cap 45 deck.

Hiw about this fireflies. Instead of 2 of 3 how about a “vengeance” match. Here’s how it would work

In pro mode you play a normal match. Your first three cards are preselected so no change is made by momo here. When the match is over a “rematch” button is offered to just the loser. If the loser wants a vengeance match then a second and final battle takes place immediately. In this version first round card selection is possible.each match is worth dp ladder points also. What does this accomplish:

1. If the losing player does not want to play a second match they simply decline the vengeance match and move on to the next player
2. If the losing player is a weaker player but wants to play a vengeance match to see if they can try to beat the stronger player with a different strategy then they control the option of whether they do it or not
3. Fewer bot interactions in this scenario as we play real players more often
4. Tather than 3 matches we are looking at 2 at most
5. This can only help the weaker player because they can decline the vengeance match every time
6. This conservative approach allow momo to play test both a rematch option and a first round selection option in ladder
7. Cmon you can’t tell me if we match up in ladder and I win you don’t want a rematch? :) :) :) I know if anyone in the top 10 beats me I will definitely be hitting that rematch button just because I enjoy playing too 10 players so much.
8. This could result in top players spending more time playing top players and weaker players spending more time playing weaker players. Why? When top players beat other top players the losing top player probably request a rematch. When weaker players beat other weaker players the weaker players also request a rematch more often. Lastly when stronger players beat weaker players the weaker player is less likely to request a rematch. The net result help skew the matches to where the more evenly matched players play each other more. Also the weaker player still have the option to rematch the strong player to try to win so its win win.

Well what do you think?
