My math said that spending 100 diamonds to buy packs then sacrificing them for rubies could result in 1,950 to 2,600 rubies. I'm still in a little disbelief over this, so I'm going to take one for the team and test this out. I just bought the diamonds, and this is where I'm starting:
18,432 gold
402 rubies
I noted down how many of each card I currently have, and will sell off anything I pick up here.
I bought the Large Coins Chest, bringing my gold to 50,932, which I'll now use to purchase 13 packs of Lucky Stars. Let's see how lucky my stars turn out:
Silver: 39 new cards
Golden: 22 new cards
Diamond: 4 new cards
Legend: 0 new cards
Epic: 0 new cards (Didn't expect any)
I was also left with 18,458 gold... a 26 gold increase. WOOT! WOOT!
After disenchanting these 65 new cards, I ended up with...
Rubies: 1,113, or a net increase of 711. That gives us 711/13 packs, or 54 rubies per pack.
And just now I realized the flaw in my math. My argument to EBC was that buying 3 packs would only get you 150 rubies, and EBC said it would be closer to 200. For some reason, per 1 pack stuck in my head, so I'm off by a factor of 3. Oops. This math shows that 3 packs got me, on average, 164 rubies.
Now I can go adjust my math in the previous post. I hope you guys found something of worth in this.
Test: Buy diamonds then packs then sacrifice

Re: Test: Buy diamonds then packs then sacrifice
Long been quizzing over that... Thanks for the info. More or less close to the average ive been getting. (50's range)
Bought at least 30 packs since the update and no legendary.
Im guessing the "100 legendaries" should be put to the test as well if possible on a larger scale.
On a related note, did anyone ever get a legendary of the gold packs??

Thanks for the reply. Good to know. Now i wonder if i should start testing my chances. Prolly 1/500 by my guess. Might as well start counting packs now. =)

Re: Test: Buy diamonds then packs then sacrifice
Update: Been tracking pack purchases over the past week. And while i dont have a sufficient sample size,
I might just have been having really rotten luck but It seems like the number of high value cards has been going down.

Is there a way to earn blue diamonds without purchasing them with real money?

You can earn diamonds in some of the upper tier campaign quests if you get 3 stars. You can also earn a few through the ladder match tournaments. Both are pretty dismal returns though. Hopefully admin will add other ways to get diamonds. Until then these are the only two I am aware of.

High-end quests give 1 diamond each (but only once, I think there is about 20 for the taking there)
Reporting game bugs.
