Arena Drafting Practice #1

Post by HonchKing »

The purpose of this post is to help those looking sharpen their drafting skills in arena. For each pick I try to explain my reasoning behind why I made my choice.

For the best results and more fun, go through each pick and identify what seems best to you, then compare your picks to mine and decided if you agree with my reasoning or not.

Pick #1: I chose vamp duke. It’s Hp and defense along with its healing ability make it more of solid card over aileen or gun girl. Druid and instructor are high synergy cards so the chance they under preform without the proper synergys this early in the draft is high.

Pick #2: I chose withstand. It’s rather annoying trigger card that has stolen me games many before. Plus it has synergy with duke’s healing ability. Skelton King is also a solid pick IMO.

Pick #3: I chose Mia. I like to go creatures over spells cards early in draft as it allows me be to more flexible with the draft. Although, drain life and summertime aren’t terrible picks either since they have synergy with withstand. Treatments isnt very good this early and eggs is a very high synergy card in arena.

After these 3 picks this is how my draft is looking for far: our opponent has a creature and 2 spell/triggers. Chances are they are withstand and drain life.

Pick #4: I chose favor. It’s has insane synergy with withstand because withstand prevents your creatures from dying which allows your favor to recharge and insure it would active again. Skeleton king again is a solid pick over both sourceress’ and hellfire is kinda weak without the proper synergies.

Pick #5: I chose portal. It can provide an huge swing if your able to get a red dragon or mother of dragons out of it even if you don’t, the creature it summons will be at level 40 while all the other cards are level 1. Our deck isn’t an aggro style so this can fits best with our archetype.

Draft status: our opponent chose 2 spells/triggers this turn. Chances are they’re favor and portal or frost bolt or spell vortex (unlikely since no damage spells have been offered)

Pick #6: I chose crusader. I wanted bulky creature since my opponent might have a drain life and we have very few creatures drafted so far. Teppanyaki is okay IMO as you could draft a creature as your lasts card, but I felt it would make less of a difference. The other 3 cards are just really subpar in this draft when compared to these 2.

Pick #7: I chose sorceress since it can negate both drain life and favor. The other 3 creatures are all in about the same level IMO nothing really worth noting. If there had been more damage spells offered Kitty might have been a good choose since it could dodge spell damage but our opponent draft very few creatures this time.

Draft status: our opponent choose a trigger and sorceress. In the end I focused all my attacks on sourceress and my opponent couldn’t do much and I ended up winning the game.

My choice:
1. Duke Vamp,
2. Skeleton King,
3. Princess Mia if not bot because there is Compulsary Treotment to defeat Drain Life and Summer Tme,
4. Goddess Fovor,
5. Potal,
6. Archangel's Courage,
7. Kitty Girl since no Wall Of Flames.
